Asbestos and OSHA

Asbestos and OSHA
About 1.3 million employees are exposed to significant asbestos hazards in the construction and general industry. A lot more exposure occurs in the construction industry, where workers are more likely to be exposed during the removal of asbestos or manufacture of asbestos products.

The hazards of asbestos have increased the chances of workers getting cancer. The disease does not develop immediately but appears after a number of years

With such great levels of risk, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has now issued revised regulations that cover asbestos exposure in the construction and general industry. The maximum exposure limit is set in both standards. It also includes the provisions of engineering controls and respirators, exposure monitoring, protective clothing, warning signs, labeling, hygiene facilities and practices, record keeping and medical exams.

It is also the responsibility of the employers to provide their employees with a training program to help them avoid the hazards from asbestos exposure. OSHA has special training courses for asbestos hazards. There are many providers of OSHA training programs on the construction and general industry asbestos standards. You can check these out online as well. Being trained in this program will help you be aware of the asbestos hazards.
